Hospitality

The last few days have flown by. I apologize on behalf of the group for not posting pictures with this entry, the computer at my host family is a tad slow.

In spite of the rain these past couple days, we've been on the move. We had the opportunity to attend the Hampyeong Butterfly Festival, which housed everything from an ecology education center, insect and bug house, and of course, butterflies. On Buddha's birthday, May 10, we were supposed to have gone hiking on Mt. Mudeung but because of the weather we drove to the Yellow Sea where Baekje Buddhism was first brought to South Korea. Barry's first host-mom (I'm terrible with names) is a lively woman who seemed to be in charge of the Temple's celebration. She quickly scooped us up, threw some gloves on us, and there we were serving lunch to the visitors. It was spontaneous and orderly at the same time. The next day we were off to the Boseong Green Tea Plantation and Thursday was a day dedicated to the May 18th Demonstrations. Today was a beautiful day with plenty of sunshine. We took advantage of the weather and visited a missionary and temple. For lunch we attended a Rotary Meeting.

The hospitality we've been given has been remarkable. Everyone has greeted us with open arms and shown us a wonderful time. We've been here for just over a week, but already we've learned a lot, historically and culturally. They have given us their time and friendship, more than what we could have ever asked for.

Goodbye for now!
